First Family Backpacking Trip

After many summers backpacking together
Jason and I, for the first time,
took our girls where no cars can go.

"A Pinecone Fairy" by Eleanor

With a couple of children's  REI rental packs we hiked into the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness.
We camped in a meadow by a lake and snuggled in sleeping bags during a rainstorm.

Some things we learned along the way.
1. A 9 year old can carry a backpack.
2. A 7 year old can carry a backpack 400 yards.
3. Both can walk much longer than expected.
4. Teaching girls to pee in the woods isn't an easy task.
5. Teaching them to poop is even harder.
6. A pack of coyotes howling at the moon
in the middle of the night is only scary to Mommy.
7. Pine cones can become fairies and sticks make a fine fairy house.

With some BIG packs

No Cotton on the Trail.
No Polyester in the Dryer.

What all these fun photos don't show
is one of the best parts of our little holiday....
Grandparents!
Bookending our little backpacking trip has been and is to come
some precious time with both the Littles and my Dad....
more pictures to come!
