We took a little road trip this Friday.
For the Midwest geographically challenged reader
(among whom I include myself),
I've included a little map to show you
how driving around the tip of Lake Michigan
involves three states.
Our first stop, after getting out of Chicago industry
which stretches well into Indiana,
is the Indiana Dunes National Park.
This park is home to some of the biggest sand dunes since Star Wars.
Back in the 1920s people from Chicago
flocked to these beautiful beaches by train.
Things have changed since then.
In 1977 someone thought it would be
a great idea to put a nuclear power plant
at the North end of the National Park.
Genius idea.
It is still a pretty cool place to visit
and a nice lunch break
on the way to....
Michigan!
A first time in the state for all of us.
It is a beautiful two days of warmth,
being a family, having space to breathe,
and rest.
Jason drives back on Saturday,
but the girls and I stay just a wee bit longer.
I take a few wrong turns on the way home
and stumble accidentally upon an old schoolhouse.
Little House on the Prairie...big time.
The School Outhouse.
Two holes?
Sometimes a girl needs
a little road trip...
put me in a field like that any day of the week!
