It is with great excitement that we introduce the newest members of the Little family- our chickens! After several years of joking about it, thinking about it, and dismissing it, we finally had chickens pretty much dropped in our lap by a family in our church. They were ready to get rid of everything, coop, chickens, and all for FREE. Jason jumped at the opportunity, and two days later we now have a chicken coop with three very cute clucking chickens in our backyard. We also have one very excited dog who thinks life just got a lot more interesting around this urban backyard. Fortunately for the chickens, their coop was built to withstand a 100 lb Labrador Retriever, so we think it is pretty Jake proof. Jason has big plans for building a little run for them, some stairs, and some perches. We have a lot to learn, but we are very excited about fresh eggs this summer.
Jake welcomes the new additions.
how fun is this! now, you will have to do baby chicks as well....can you have a rooster in the city? we are not allowed roosters in fort collins, only hens! I am jealous...I want a hen and fresh eggs!
ReplyDeleteLove the orange shirt, jason.
So Cool! You will have a lot of fun. I think our chickens are one of my most favorite part about life at Swanson Acres. They never stop entertaining me and Abel.
ReplyDeleteHey Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI just popped in to see pictures of Jake and saw the chickens..... BE CAREFUL, remember Jake is a bird dog!! He is hard wired to hunt and chickens are great prey. Also in looking thru the pics, your girls are soooo cute! oh and free stuff.... dog cookies at the gas station and bank, we are very thankful for those at our house:-)oh my, I bet Jake has visions of chickens dancing in his head tonight and for the rest of his life......
